Who we are
TreatMeAbroad is a doctor-led medical travel service operated by the UK-registered RATED DOCTOR LIMITED (company number 12382884). We connect international patients with carefully selected specialist doctors and established hospitals overseas. Our initial focus is orthopaedic care in Chennai, India.
We bring together clinical experience and accessible digital information to help patients understand who will treat them, the anticipated costs and what to discuss before travelling. Our aim is to make healthcare more accessible and affordable while keeping patient safety and informed decision-making central.
Why we founded TreatMeAbroad
For patients in the UK, USA, Canada and other international markets, waiting times, treatment costs or access to care can prompt a search for options abroad. Choosing an unfamiliar surgeon or hospital can be difficult.
We believe patients need more than a directory or a package price. They should be able to understand a specialist’s qualifications, clinical experience and role in their care. TreatMeAbroad was founded to put the treating doctor at the centre of that decision.
A doctor-first approach
- Know your specialist: explore qualifications, clinical interests and hospital information before deciding.
- Understand the pathway: discuss anticipated costs, hospital stays, recovery and follow-up with the provider.
- Consider continuity of care: we encourage appropriate assessments and follow-up, including coordination with healthcare professionals at home where feasible.
- Look beyond price: clinical suitability, the treating doctor and a clear recovery plan matter alongside affordability.
Meet our founders
Our founders combine medical expertise with human-centred technology.
Dr Anand Mani, MBBS, FRCS, D.O., Cert. LRS
Co-founder and CEO
Dr Anand Mani is a UK-based medical doctor and ophthalmologist with experience across NHS and private healthcare. A graduate of Stanley Medical College, Chennai, he undertook postgraduate ophthalmology training in India before pursuing further qualifications and clinical experience in the UK.
He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS), completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) and undertook a clinical observership in the United States.
In clinical practice, he recognised how difficult it can be for patients to identify a doctor and assess their qualifications and expertise. He established RatedDoctor.com to help doctors present their credentials, clinical expertise and verified patient feedback. He subsequently co-founded TreatMeAbroad to extend these principles of transparency to international healthcare.
Dr Horia Maior, BSc, PhD
Co-founder
Dr Horia Maior holds a doctorate in Computer Science, specialising in User Experience (UX). His expertise is in human-computer interaction and user-centred digital technology.
His work focuses on making complex systems more intuitive and accessible. At TreatMeAbroad, he applies this experience to helping patients navigate healthcare information and understand their next steps.
Starting in Chennai, connecting patients globally
We are beginning with orthopaedic pathways, including hip and knee replacement, in Chennai. Our ambition is to expand to selected international destinations as the specialist and hospital network develops.
The platform is designed for patients in the UK, USA, Canada and other international markets. We aim to make information easier to compare without suggesting that treatment abroad is the right choice for everyone.
Clear responsibilities
TreatMeAbroad facilitates access to independent healthcare providers. Clinical assessments, treatment decisions and medical care remain the responsibility of the treating doctors and hospitals.
Our commitment is to help you understand your options and ask informed questions. A consultation request does not oblige you to book treatment.
